Hi Apollo
Backup Chains on "Direct to object storage" are using Forever Forward Incremental backup chains.
Only unique data will be offloaded to the object storage bucket. If you enable GFS retention, we will just tag the relevant daily restore point as a weekly, monthly or yearly restore point and keep it longer.
Therefore you can use the calculator with the following settings:
https://calculator.veeam.com/vbr/
- ReFS/XFS: enabled
- Daily amount and optional GFS amount
- Backup Copy Policy disabled
- Capacity Tier disabled
Please note: This calculator won't work if you configure active full backups. Active full backups to "Direct to Object Storage" repositories will upload an entire full backup. Active full backups are not connected to GFS backups. Both have their own schedule (tagging GFS, creating active full.
https://calculator.veeam.com/vse/
It supports natively "Direct to Object Storage" repositories.
If you need to size a larger environment (hundreds of workload, hundreds of TB, possible PB), I recommend to get in contact with the Veeam system engineer or Veeam partner in your region for a proper sizing.
Best,
Fabian

Hello Fabian,
Thanks for your reply! Actually, we are planning to configure the backup copy job as directly to object storage.

Backup job and backup copy job have the same behavior when writing directly to object storage.
