Backup for a PostgreSQL DB on an Azure VM

Post by sandsturm »

Hi

We are using Veeam VBR onPrem since years and now we started to deploy the first VMs on Azure. Now I have to find a good backup solution for such workloads and I thought about Veeam Azure backup. The problem is, that some of these VMs are running PostgreSQL databases on it and we need a backup solution for that. Currently I don't see another option then writing DB dumps to a serverlocal disk and do the backup of this dumpfile with Veeam. When will we see an integration for PostgreSQL databases in Veeam for Azure as we have it in Veeam VBR?

thx and regards,
sandsturm

Hi!
For now, you can use the Azure VM backup feature with guest processing enabled to back up PostgreSQL databases running on Azure VMs. We will look into expanding PostgreSQL backup capabilities in the future.

Hi Lyudmila

Thanks a lot, I'll try that with the scripts and hope we'll see an application-aware processing mechanism for Postgresql databases in the near future ;-)

thx,

Hi,

There is no news/update yet. You can use guest processing to perform a backup as Lyudmila mentioned in her post.
