Error: AttachHotaddDiskToVm failed, vmRef '8'

Post by seizurebot »

Hello,

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. As per my previous post I have an esxi VM setup with a virtual RDM. I have tried removing and re-adding the proxy using its IP. I have rebooted the veeam server, the proxy and the trouble VM with no luck.

Processing Win-Server2012-FS01 Error: AttachHotaddDiskToVm failed, vmRef '8', diskPath '[ds2] Win-Server2012-FS01/Win-Server2012-FS01_1.vmdk', deviceProperties: 1000:2 05:55

I have exported my logs but I can't seem to find where to open a support case within B&R ver 10 Community.

Appreciate any insights,

- Support cases can be opened here.
- Give that disk a Manual Hot-add Test go.
/Thanks!

Since you weren't able to attach the disk manually, no wonder Veeam B&R wasn't able to do so as well. Let's see what our engineers will tell after reviewing your case closer. Meanwhile, you can review the hotadd limitations to see if any of those might apply. Thanks!

Hello,

Agree with Foggy, looks like some issue exists at the level of vSphere.

While you're waiting for the result of analysis from our support team, I'd recommend to take a look at this KB article which tells about similar error and may be that KB article would be helpful as well if you want to look for a process holding the file lock.

Thanks!

I encountered a very similar problem with Linux Hot-Add proxy when running SCSI UNMAP (Optimize-Volume -Retrim) in pre-freeze script on Windows VMs. Direct SAN worked fine.
Strangely we've been running similar scripts for Linux for ages with no such problems.

It seems that details of cases over 2 years old are scrubbed in support portal and I don't have full details in mail either. Can't recall the details also anymore, sorry.
