We would like to rename our VBR server (netbios name change) but would like to post the question here in case this is totally unsupported.
VBR 12 is installed on a domain joined member server (W2019) with SQL Express on the same server.

Hi Kazz,
As you're running your DB on the server as well, you're most likely better off to take a configuration backup and deploy a new server with the new name. There are a number of issues that can pop up after renaming a a VBR server, especially with a DB, - There is a databse reconfiguraiton tool available. https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Unless there is a particular reason, it'd be a good oppotunity to migrate to using the PostgreSQL DB as well to remove the SQL Express limitations and perhaps get some extra performance.
Someone might have a better recommendation, but historically from my experience, server rename with VBR hasn't been great.
On a side note, also a good idea to keep your backup servers off the domain with accounts specific to the backup - If your domain gets owned - so will your backups.
