Replication failover when VBR is lost on the source site

Post by barrett27 » 1 person likes this post

Hello,
what should I do if I lose VBR on a source site replicated to a different vcenter in a disaster scenario?

Can I start VMs target from vsphere using the active snapshots? There is a BP about this case?

Thanks

Hi Barret

Preferable you should deploy a new VBR server and import your most current configuration backup. Then you can use this VBR to manage the failover of your VMs.
If you have lost your configuration backups too, you can power on the replica VMs over your vCenter or ESXI interface. But you will loose failback capabilities and applying re-ip rules. if you want to fallback to production, you need to recreate replication jobs.

Hi Fabian,
thank you.

What about if the last RP is created after the last configuration backup and disaster happens? Would be a rescan enough after importing configuration on the VBR target?

Hi Barret

Yes, in that situation you can rescan your replicas:
