[Feature Request] NFS 4.2 / reflink / fast clone

Post by diogomarzano »

Hi,

May be positive the use of NFS 4.2 with fast clone.

The ZFS(v2.2+), xfs and btrfs filesystems can suport reflink and NFS 4.2 implements file_copy_range function.

Thanks!

Hello Diogo

Thank you for the request. No promises, but we will research the topic on our side.
Can I ask what storage appliance (NAS-device) you would use as your NFS target?

Best,

Hi Fabian

We are using a scale-out/XFS/Immutable Linux on Tier 0 and really enjoying it, but, we believe that an on-premise agentless solution can be a good choice over S3 for Tier 1 in the future. We are studying the use of an Ubuntu/OpenZFS/NFSv4.2 server. The OpenZFS allow changing a RAID(Single Point of Failure) to multiple HBAs on Bare Metal/DAS solution and reflink/NFS can help in deduplication.

Thanks,

Diogo
