Slow "saving FsAwareMeta" in backup copy jobs

Post by stevemciow »

We have several Backup Copy Jobs that send to our offsite location over a 1Gb private link. The action list for each VM within the job includes an entry similar to the following for every virtual disk within the VM:

Code: Select all

Saving FsAwareMeta:e38ca861-4655-44d3-804a-9f2047422504:5B29356B8128753C7DD5CE9A89A22D5A
Sometimes the duration for this is 0, but for other VMs (SQL server ones in particular) each entry consistently takes 5+ minutes.

Is this normal behaviour? (for some VMs with a lot of virtual disks it is adding well over an hour to the processing time)

Thanks!

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

I don't think that it is possible to answer your question without debug logs analysis. First, we need to find out the root cause of the meta saving delay in your environment. After that, we can say whether it is normal or not. Please open a support case and share case ID over here for our reference.

Thanks!

We actually found the issue in the end - for one of our scale-out repository sub-repositories, we had "decompress backup file data blocks before storing" enabled (it shouldn't have been, as we aren't using deduplicating storage appliances on the physical side). Once we un-ticked that, performance returned to normal.
