Post by handian.sudianto »

hello,
If the daily incremental backup size is 100GB, then we change schedule backup to every 6 hours will size of backup for 6 hours is 100GB or 25GB (100GB/4)?

This depends a bit on what the overwrite pattern looks like within the VM.
On average it is more near on the 25GB side.

Example:
You have a database that hold temporary data and collects every hour specific data of 100GB. Then the change rate within 6 hours is likely near the 100GB.

Example2:
You have an average application or file server that does random data changes => Then it would be more near the 25GB side.

Example 3:
You have a file server that people work with. You will likely see an uptick in the changes during one of the 6 hours window. Change rate could look like this: 10GB, 25GB, 50GB, 25GB. So as some of the data get´s overwritten the change rate is a bit higher in total than the 100GB.

But as I said on average within a customer it will likely be the 25GB then. Some server less, some server more.

Let say the incremental happened every 6 hours starting today at 12am, 6am, 12pm then for incremental at 6pm this will compare changes from incremental at 12Pm to current condition, am i right? So we can't restore version 12pm if incremental on 6am is missing, am i right?

Yes, this is correct. Only changes since last restore point are backed up.
