Feature Request Snmp Notifications for backup to tape job

Hello,

I didn't find anything about my subject, we're sending snmp traps to a monitoring solution to raise alerts then tickets if a jobs fails.

Is there any reason it's not available for backup to tape job?

I see no particular reason to lack SNMP traps for Tape Jobs.

Hello, we use Centreon for monitoring.

For the snmp traps part we're using dsmd who catch traps receives by snmptrapd.

Maybe you can ask why not using powershell or API to check status of jobs? It's easier to for operator to deal with one line per jobs when it fails then open an incident case to l2 etc...
In the past i did the implementation with powershell but i faced many challenges:
- It was not pratical for operator to manage alarms when check jobs status contains all jobs, if one fails the check goes critical
- Create one check by one jobs dit not scale was tricky to manage in monitoring when a change occures in backup...
- When a major update of veeam was deployed, we had to refactor powershell scripts used because they were using deprecated librairies (modules).

We plan to add SNMP traps for tape jobs in v13.

v12a we will have integration with SIEM systems provided within B&R, so I wonder if that totally replaces the need of SNMP taps for you guys or not? Based on brief research Centreon provides the capability of receiving events via syslog protocol.

Hello Dima,

This is good news, it's planned for v13. It's not the same usage for SNMP Traps and syslog alerts, both are useful depending the customer use.

As a first step, SIEM integration will be useful specially for security team without the need to manage/install agents on Veeam servers. This will require additional work to exploit the data in an observable (observability) way, and to make it usable at scale for level 1 of the supervision team.
