FailBack and Quick Rollback

Post by snarice »

Dear all,

Quick question about failback process during DR scenario

Will the limitation mentionned below fixed in future version or will never be fixed ??
"Due to changes in VMware vSphere 7.0 and later, the replica failback operation forces digest recalculation for both source and target VMs. That is why the Quick rollback option is ignored for ESXi hosts starting from version 7.0."

Because, in our scenario
we have 55 VMs on our DR site
Between our main site and our DR site, we have an internet access 400Mbps and around 40ms latency

When we failover our 55 VMs, we work on them for 1 or 2 days
and we come back to main site
The failback for 55 VMs take around 18 hours....
The digest calculation take from one to several hours per VM

Example FailBack Process for one VM

Code: Select all

12/8/2023 6:14:03 PM Failback started at 08/12/2023 18:14:03
12/8/2023 6:14:32 PM Queued for processing at 08/12/2023 18:14:32
12/8/2023 6:14:32 PM Required backup infrastructure resources have been assigned
12/8/2023 6:14:32 PM No available proxies are running on ESXi management interface subnet. Using proxies from a different subnet, performance may be impacted
12/8/2023 6:14:37 PM Using target proxy xxxxxx [nbdssl]
12/8/2023 6:14:37 PM Using source proxy xxxxxx [hotadd]
12/8/2023 6:14:51 PM Preparing original VM
12/8/2023 6:14:50 PM No VM tags to restore
12/8/2023 6:15:06 PM Creating working snapshot on original VM

12/8/2023 11:02:35 PM Removing working snapshot from original VM
12/8/2023 11:04:01 PM Destination VM has been synchronized with replica VM at 08/12/2023 23:04:01
12/8/2023 11:04:01 PM Replica VM will be switched over to production manually
Is there a way to optimize this process ?

Many Thanks
