multichannel SMB repo

Post by Kazz »

Hi,

I have a backup job with 18 VMs (25TB backup size) going to a Synology NAS. Synology has 1Gbps ports the rest of the environment is all 10Gbps. I enabled SMB v3 on Synology and got another link connected. Both proxy servers had another vnic added and network configured for connectivity to Synology. Our setup looks almost identical to this -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Tzf-VbleUc
with NAS manufacturer being different.

We are able to push large files to NAS from either proxy at 164MBps and see traffic going across both interfaces, however when send backups to a NAS repo, we are seeing a very slight improvement over 1Gbps. 143MBps was the average transfer speed on the last backup job with proxy showing as the bottleneck.

Would you suggest switching storage optimization from 1MB (current setting) to 4MB on the existing jobs or it would not make much difference in job performance?

Thanks
