Veeam Windows PC Backup

Post by ICE_TCP_PLUS »

Greetings,

We are expanding our backup with Veeam.
For now we were using it to backup VMs but now we are adding tasks for file backup and Physical PCs to be backed up.

Plan is to make baremetal backup of PCs since they are running custom software so we can restore Windows on backup PCs.

My question is with our Enterprise Plus Licence how many licences will we use for each PC?
Are we allowed to use Free edition for our "sandboxed" PCs and back them up with Enterprise Plus Licence as files ?

Hello Vedran

Welcome to the forum.

I assume you will target backups of those PCs to the Veeam Backup & Replication repositories. And you will use VBR to deploy and manage the agents. Therefore you must license the agents. Agents require VUL licensing:
- Veeam Agent for Workstation = 1x VUL instance for three machines
- Veeam Agent for Server = 1x VUL instance for one machine

You can check out the different between both editions in our "Veeam Agent feature comparison" guide:
https://www.veeam.com/veeam_agents_feat ... son_ds.pdf

If you have a "Enterprise Plus Licence" socket license, you will have complimentary "instances". 1 per socket. Limited to 6 free instances per license. You can use them to backup your agents. If you need more instances for your environment, please contact a regional Veeam partner or Veeam sales representative to discuss the right amount of licenses.

Best,
