Hi guys,
When new tapes are loaded into the library and are then then imported via Veeam, they remain in the unrecognized state.
Veeam documentation states to perform an inventory on them to move them to the free pool.
Just wondering if there is any significant difference or drawbacks with performing a "move to free pool" as opposed to an inventory on them?
The reason I ask, is sometimes all the drives are in use, and so an inventory will fail and so has to be manually kicked off later.

Re: New Tapes - Inventory vs Move to Free Pool
Hello Voodoo
Tape inventory will check if the tape is empty or not. If the tape is empty, it will be moved to the free pool.
If unknown Veeam backups are on the tape, the tape will stay in the unrecognized pool until you have catalogized the tape.
Moving it to free just moves it for your "free tapes". If there were backups on the tape, they will be removed from the Veeam configuration database when you move it to the free media pool.
Best,
Fabian
