Feature Request: Vaccum for PGSQL processing

Post by bct44 »

Hello,

I discussed to this feature request with Petr during summit, better than never here is my feature request.

We're testing for supported pgsql version to use veeam to completely remove the adherence from outside scheduler to follow our backup plan for business pgsql.
During the actual process we're doing vacuum after the backup at the end of scheduling sequence.

It could be amazing if Veeam can trigger Vaccum for PGSQL backup managed by backup software.

Hello,
what's the idea of manually scheduling vacuum if autovacuum is enabled?

A "SHOW autovacuum;" should show "on" per default.

Best regards,
Hannes

Hello Hannes,

in the past, there was a lot of issues for autovaccum and CVEs. Even if it's more stable right now, for some heavy business apps you could have the need to have a maintenance plan. Indeed if running an autovaccum it could result to delay users insert during to an amount of time during business hours. It could be smoother when doing it during night with the backup windows.
It's a feature request from my company DB expert, i'm not a DBA :)

I love this article in french about vaccum vs autovaccum.

Hello,
just to be sure... are you talking about the Veeam configuration database or do you want us to run vaccum on your production Postgres machines?

Best regards,
Hannes

oh okay... then I guess a post-script would be the way to go. I was thinking about our configuration database all the time

I'm not sure why a backup software should have built-in database maintenance tasks :-)
