Extend hardened repository retention

Post by perjonsson1960 »

Folks,

We have a hardened repository with a retention of 30 days, and the jobs storing backups there have a retention of 32 days.
If I want to extend the retention of the repo to, let's say 50 days, can I then simply change the value in the repo to 50, and the jobs to 52, and that's it?

Kind regards,
PJ

Hello PJ

Yes, you can.
Retention can always be adjusted in the job settings according to your new business needs.
Same goes for the immutability setting on the repository properties. Please be aware, that only the active backup chain and new backups will be made immutable for the new period. Inactive chains will keep their old immutability period. And while setting a lower immutability period is also possible, it won't have any affect on existing immutable restore points.

As a workaround for the inactive chains, you could use PowerShell to extend immutable date.
--> Set-VBRImmutabilityLockExpirationDate
