Netapp (Fileshare) NAS backup license count errors

Post by DaStivi »

Hi,
i noticed multiple times now when using Netapp Integration, NAS Share Backups the license cound is exceeded but the amount of data should be within the limits of the NAS TB Licensed...

i image this happens because veeam initially trys to count the amount of data, but in this counting process it also counts the content of the ~snapshot directory, even in the backup itself it isn't included then anymore...

i can proof this with a Fileshare with like 4TB at least this is what treesize reports, ~snapshot directory is not count by treesize as its hidden!

but as soon as i start the backup of this share in veeam, the license used count raised to 8 TB!
when veeam finishes the job it also only counts 4TB! but still the license window reports 8TB nas capacity licenses are used, and this sums up and some shares don't get backuped then when the licenses are exceeded!

The snapshot location is excluded by default. If you suspect the snapshot location to cause this please check the job exclude filters, possibly you removed the exclusion?

double checked the exclusions... they are in place, and i also don't see the folders in the backup afterwards!
as said, when i use treesize and scan the share i only see 4TB of used space....

but after starting the veeam nas backup job, the license count goes up to 8... the scan task also only displays 4TB then.. but somehow veeam see 8TB while scaning and checking license availability?!

Hello Stephan,

Please raise a support case, the size information is also stored in the logs and support team can doublecheck those and give you a clear picture. Please share the case ID with us once you have it. Thank you!
