Is it possible for Veeam community edition to backup the very workstation it is running on?
And in case of calamities restore it through bootable media?

Of course. Our Veeam Agent can also protect and restore the VBR server.
Make sure to exclude any volume with Veeam backup files. Those must be copied to a secondary location by a backup copy job and not through a backup with Veeam Agent.

Please note, our recommendation is to leverage configuration backup and restore to protect your backup server configuration. In case of a disaster, you can just deploy windows from scratch, install Veeam Backup & Replication and import your configuration backup:
- Creating Configuration Backups
- Restoring Configuration Database
