Migrate Data Domain from Avamar to Veeam

Post by MikeMoenich »

This may be more of a Data Domain question. I have a DD2500, as an Avamar repository. I am wanting to transition it to a Veeam repository. I am not looking to migrate the existing Avamar backups, just start using the DD as an additional repository for Veeam. Would I have to delete the existing Avamar repository first? (I'm not that experienced with the DD. Avamar was set up before I arrived).

Hi Mike

DD2500 is rather an old model. It came out in 2013 and is end of life since October 2022. Running a supported DDOS version will be a challenge for an end of life model:

I don‘t recommend to use a DD2500 today as a primary backup repository. Reason: Backup and Restore Performance. But it may still be a target for backup copy jobs or maybe in a lab environment.
You don‘t have to delete your Avamar repository. But please be aware, that running Avamar and Veeam jobs simultaneously to the same DD2500 appliance will affect job performance of both products.
For Veeam you should create a new storage unit and a user for DDBoost. Dell provides a step by step guide and other information as well:

If DDBoost integration is not possible, you can still add it as an SMB or NFS share.

Best,
