Deleting old full copies.

Post by virusek391 »

If I set the free version to delete old copies after 8 days, then will the full copies be deleted as well?
Kind regards,
Lukasz

Hi Lukasz

Yes. Full backups can also be deleted according to the configured retention policy. Please consider, that for the free or workstation agent, we count days where a backup was taken to the retention period. Not calendar days.
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/agent ... tml?ver=60

Example (Computer turned off from January 4th and 7th):
- January 1st --> full backup created
- January 2nd --> incremental backup created
- January 3rd --> incremental backup created
- January 8th --> full backup created
- January 13th --> incremental backup created
- January 14th --> incremental backup created
- January 15th --> full backup created

Backups older than 8 (+1) calendar days will not yet be deleted. We only have 7 days with backups.

Best,

I would also point out that the January 1st full backup and the two incrementals after that won't be deleted until the point where all three of them can be deleted at once and still leave eight backup copies. The practical result is that those won't be deleted until after the 11th backup copy is created.
