Can we get smaller update downloads, or at least direct downloads of the ISO files?

Post by mikeely »

Bringing our system up from 12.0 to 12.1, so a point release, forcing me to download the whole stack of stuff. Sure seems like a delta would be friendlier than the whole stack if we've already got everything installed.

Then, to add insult to injury, it's a 9.2 GB zip file, which then needs to be "uncompressed" into a 11.2 GB directory before use, so that's 21.4 GB of high-performance disk being burned up before we can even start the upgrade. And what's in that directory? Two ISO files. Bandwidth is cheaper than disk, can we not just directly access those ISO files directly?

But really, it would be nice to just create patch installers for both components.

Good point Mike. We literally just decided a few days ago to get rid of ZIP/EXE and deliver everything as an ISO, even updates. Should really help, not only with disk space (who cares these days) but more importantly, the speed of installation due to no need to extract first.

As for 12.0 to 12.1, sorry but no delta this time... a 10 months release cycle that resulted in 24 pages of What's New documentation is bound to touch every single component. I guess we should have just called it V13 ;)

And then you'd have people complaining that there weren't enough new features to call it a full version release instead - can't win really

Good to know regarding the direct ISO downloads. Thanks!
