SMB share backup vs. archive attribute / flag

Post by xzvf »

Hi all,

Our customer would like to backup a Netbackup file share without storage integration, i.e. like a simple SMB share.

The files on the SMB share would be archived via Veritas Enterprise Vault, and to achieve this, it check the files' archive attribute.
If the archive attribute is set, the Veritas will not archive the files, it is unse, it will archive them.

All older backup solutions deleted the archive flag upon a successful backup.

Does a Veeam fileshare backup job unset the archive attributes of the succesfullybacked up files, i.e. does it removes the archive flag from the file?
Can anyone confirm this?

I have did some searching, but no luck so far.

Thanks in advance!

The bottom line of the story for the future generations:
I have engaged the support.
There is no such feature in Veeam. No hidden option, no registry tweak.
If someone needs to do this, a custom post-job script is required to run.

Hello xzvf

Correct, our file share backup jobs do not work with the archive bit/attribute.
Can Veritas Enterprise Vault unset the archive bit? If Veritas relies on archive bits, then it should be able to unset the archive bit after successful What's the use case? Creating a backup before the file gets moved to the archival appliance?
