how to set up encryption for object storage
Hi everyone,
I'm having a backup on an object storage, that backup got copied there by an offload job from a SOBR. In the settings for the SOBR there is a section to set the encryption passwords - all good so far. The thing is, there is no way to specify an encryption on an object storage directly and I would have to export/copy a backup from one objectstorage (part of SOBR) to a fresh objectstorage and I don't wannt to loose the encryption.
The veeam BP told me that the settings under "access permissions" would be valid for the agent backups, not B&R-jobs. I just can't imagine that there was no way to setup encryption for a single objectstorage...
Thanks!

Re: how to set up encryption for object storage
Hello,
Best regards,
Hannes
same like for any other repositoryThe thing is, there is no way to specify an encryption on an object storage directly
Not 100% what you ask for, but enabling encryption on the backup copy job would be pretty close to that.I would have to export/copy a backup from one objectstorage (part of SOBR) to a fresh objectstorage and I don't wannt to loose the encryption.
Best regards,
Hannes

Hi Hannes,
thanks for your response. What I mean was using the export function... If I create a BCJ, I can't choose that specific restore point and I'm only interested in one particular restore point...

Hi Hannes,
in the meantime I've asked the support team about the options and got the following response:

So, I'd like to submit the option to encrypt and exported backup as a feature request. Thanks.Currently it doesn't appear that encryption for the export option is available. The best option available to you would be to
create a copy of the existing backup job chain including the backup you wish to preserve. Copies of the existing encrypted backups will remain encrypted.

The request seems reasonable and has been noted (no exact version commitment). Thanks for raising this!

Re: how to set up encryption for object storage
Hi Vladimir & Hannes,
right now I'm having an imported VAW backup and I'd like to copy/move this to an object storage, again with encryption. But I can't use that backup for the backup copy job and using the copy function doesn't ask for a password... Same situation here, I guess?

Re: how to set up encryption for object storage
Hi, Michael, apologize for missing this thread - the feature has been tracked as an enhancement for post-v12.1 releases. Currently, we cannot provide a better ETA. Thanks!

Hi Michael,
There have been no changes since my last message. The feature is still planned for the next major release, but we do not have ETA at this moment.
Thank you!
