Difference between "Archive Repository" and "Keep all versions"

Post by Max93 »

Good day everyone,

I'm currently in the process of restructuring our backup system, and in doing so, I seem to have several options for archiving older backups.

When I create a backup job, I have the option to select "Archive Repository" and move all files older than x days.

However, under the "Backup Repository -> Advanced..." section, I also have the option to specify "Keep all versions."

What exactly is the difference here, and which would be the best approach?

Hello,
the question is what you try to achieve :-)
I have the option to select "Archive Repository" and move all files older than x days.
it's not that simple... "move" only happens when the source file in production was changed or deleted.
However, under the "Backup Repository -> Advanced..." section, I also have the option to specify "Keep all versions."
that option exists in case you want to limit the versions of a file, but keep the backup in general for a defined amount of time.

Best regards,
Hannes

Dear HannesK,

Thank you very much for the feedback and the information. Through some tests I have now found out what the difference is and know what I have to do :-)

Best regards,
Max
