Data Domain immutability

Post by stewsie »

HI

I would like to implement immutability on our Data Domains and am interested if anyone has done this and have any comments/recommendations, good or bad.

We have no way of testing this so it will be turned on with whatever impact/risks that may introduce

Thanks

Hi Paul

While enabling Retention Lock is a global setting, you can still choose which storage units are immutable and which are not. Default setting for a new Mtree is " DD Retention Lock" disabled. You can create a new Storage Unit to test it before enabling immutability on your existing repositories.

From the side of Veeam Backup & Replication you need to be aware off:
- We only support Compliance mode. Backup files will be immutable and cannot be deleted. Don't test it with long term retention and large VMs.
- GFS backups will be immutable for the entire retention time. E.g. --> Backup job has configured 10 yearly GFS, those yearly restore point will be immutable for 10 years.

You find additional consideration in our helpcenter:
