In my infrastructure, I have three VMware ESXi servers, version 8. Two servers share storage and are managed through vCenter. The third ESXi server is standalone. I've set up a replication task from esx1 to esx3. The VM machine is on a shared storage and the Backup Repository is on iSCSI. I've initiated the task, but I'm concerned about the long wait time before it reaches 'Using source proxy' status ~1 hour. What could be the reason?

Re: Using source proxy ~ 1 hour
Hi Greg,
Looks like we tried to use the VBR Server as a hotadd proxy, but it wasn't able to attach the disks to the proxy so it failed over to NBD. You can mitigate the wait by just forcing NBD transport mode on the proxy.
Your backup speeds are pretty good for NBD, so I think this should be quite usable for you so no need to rush to try to configure hotadd, though hotadd can potentially be faster. If you're fine with the backup times with NBD, I would just leave it as is, but if you want to pursue the hotadd failures, I'd start first by seeing if you can manually hotadd a disk like our KB here shows: https://www.veeam.com/kb1184 Note how long the attachment takes.
