[Feature Request] MS Sql Server Plugin - MSSQLRecoveryManager.exe should return NON-ZERO on error.

Post by JGranden » 3 people like this post

MSSQLRecoveryManager.exe should consistently return non-zero exit codes everytime backups fail or partially fail.
Some cases work as expected, e.g. bad user/pass for accessing the Vbr server.

In other situations, the command completes "successfully" (e.g., returning zero, no errors printed) when the backup has actually failed. One common example is when a backup repository runs out of space....

MSSQLRecoveryManager.exe logs the failure in the %programdata%\...\MSSQLPluginLogs\ directory, so it IS aware that the backup failed, it just doesn't report it. (silent failure, yay!)

Returning a non-zero exit code upon failure is the expected behavior for every command line program ever. (and printing error messages when errors occur as well).

Hi Jesse,

Yes, I would say that this is one of the most serious issues with the plug-in but it will be fixed in the next patch that will be available very soon... :)

Thanks!
