Compliance vs Governance Mode

Post by tyler.jurgens »

Reading through this article here by Steve:
https://community.veeam.com/blogs-and-p ... art-7-6757

Any chance we can make this integration easier for service providers and allow this governance mode to be implemented in Veeam via a setting in the SOSAPI?

If COMPLIANCE vs GOVERNANCE mode is simply modifiable by a registry edit on the VBR itself, its conceivable a customer could change the mode intentionally (through editing the registry) or unintentionally (VBR config backup and restore to a new VBR server) and all of a sudden objects are locked in COMPLIANCE mode instead of GOVERNANCE as intended. We can ingest data into our S3 from customers that are just using us as offsite S3. We don't always manage the customer's VBR server.

I want this to be something we set as a Service Provider, rather than something the customer sets. If a customer decides to set a 15 year GFS policy on backups sent to a S3 bucket with Object Lock in Compliance mode, and they cancel, its a mess.
