Hi,
I am trying to restore a mailbox, permissions have been granted to the account which I am trying to perform restore, but when I click on the restore button I am getting the error:
Failed to open mailbox:
mailbox@domain.com
Failed to access the mailbox.
The SMTP address has no mailbox associated with it.
Could someone please help?

Re: Unable to perform restore
Hi Nikola,
This could be a temporary problem (we have seen that before) but it could also be a bigger issues such such as the mailbox that doesn't exist anymore or anything similar to that. Can you logon to the Exchange Online admin portal (from M365 itself) and see if there is an issue with that specific mailbox? It might be that the user account has NO mailbox anymore and that you need to "attach" it again

Re: Unable to perform restore
Hi Mike,
That is the problem, this is a group that was deleted from the tenant and now we want to restore it we need some data from it. It does not exist on the tenant anymore. So how we can restore it again if it does not exist on the tenant?

Re: Unable to perform restore
See if you can restore the group from the Entra ID recycle bin. Then you have the object again and you can restore it without any issues.
However, if it is not in the recycle bin anymore, then you can recreate it but you must be aware that it becomes a restore to "another mailbox" because the ID of the object won't be the same anymore. So ideally you can do it from the recycle bin of Entra ID (I believe 7 days for free version of Entra, 30 days for P1 and P2 licenses)

Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, 30 days have passed so we need to go with new creation.
