Network throttling not working
Hello.
I have the following Veeam set at out site. All the components are on the same site, but some are on diferente subnets.
VCenter & Esxy - vlan 1 (on the data center site 1)
VMware backup proxy - vlan 1 (vmware machine inside de vcenter)
Proxy for the data domain - vlan 1 (vmware machine inside de vcenter)
dell Data domain - vlan 1 (in the same site/data center site 1)
I have set the throttling at 50mb´s because the network guys are trying to cap the traffic.
But it dosent seem to be working.
From what i have read, the throttling only works if they are on different sites.
As this is not our case, it wont work right ?
thanks in advance.

Re: Network throttling not working
OK can you please share between what components you want to throttle the network?
Anyway, our throttling can work only between Veeam components (Source and Target Datamover).
For example you can define the IP address of a Proxy (or the range from all Proxies) and the Repository Gateway Server of the Datadomain.
And set the same rule in the opposite direction.
So dataflow is then the following:
VMware - unthrottled to - Veeam Proxy - throttled to - Veeam Repo Gateway Server - unthrottled to Datadomain.
If I remember right you can as well set a throughput cap on the Repository then between Veeam Repo Gateway Server and Datadomain the traffic is throttled. I would not do this however.

Re: Network throttling not working
I already tried creating a rule for throttling the network were the vmware proxy and veeam gateway are, that the same subnet on both, but there were no changes in the throughput of the jobs.
This is what i thought happened from the documentation.
VMware - unthrottled to - Veeam Proxy - throttled to - Veeam Repo Gateway Server - unthrottled to Datadomain.
I don't think it will be possible to lower the throughput as everything is in the same infrastructure.

Re: Network throttling not working
Can you try the following?
Create a traffix rule with one IP address of the Proxy and with one IP address of the Veeam Repo Gateway Server
and do the same with the rule backwards.
Then check processing throughput beween those.

Re: Network throttling not working
Checked even in the documentation it is marked that it works that way how you set it up.
I suggest opening a support case and upload logs. The team can check on why throttling did not happen. As well guide you on what IP addresses are used and so on based on logs.
