How roles are assigned to the user account for the Enterprise Manager API

Post by moshe.mazor@hpe.com »

Hi Guys,

When I try and run the POST for the https:<server>/api/session/sessionMngr/?v=latest endpoint I see the following response with the account I have

{"FirstChanceExceptionMessage":null,"StackTrace":null,"Message":"User 'VEEAM\\username does not have any roles","StatusCode":401,"Status":"Unauthorized"}

The Veeam API reference docs suggest that the security role implementation for the API is different than for the Web UI (maybe I am misreading this) so how are this assigned without having a user account you can establish an API session with? Is there a default Administrator account which should have API permissions established at implementation time which should be used or is there another way?

Any pointers you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Moshe

Hi Moshe,

From your post, it seems you've already found our API documentation taking about Security Roles.

Answering your question, all local & Active Directory users assigned the Portal Administrator role in the Web UI will have that same level of access in the REST API. From there, the API-specific security roles can be assigned via API as discussed in the documentation you've already identified.

Hope this helps!
