How to restore to google without VBR

Post by Shieik »

Hi,

we are planning DR to several clouds and i think i am missing something with google.

If we make backup-copy to google cloud, there is a way to restore those backups if my VBR (local) dies?

I dont see we can install a new VBR on google and import those backups

Thanks for the time!

Hello Shieik

Are you asking for "Veeam Backup & Replication" or for "Veeam Backup for Google".
I assume you are asking for "Veeam Backup & Replication" and you use "Google Cloud Storage" as a backup target for a backup copy job.

You will require a Veeam Backup & Replication server to start the restore. It can be a new backup server where you import your configuration backup. Or connect to the same Google storage from another backup server and start a repository rescan. Available restore points will become available after the rescan.

VBR is unavailable in Google marketplace. So you will need to launch it on-prem or in Azure/AWS.

Even though VBR is currently unavailable as a dedicated virtual machine in the Google Cloud Marketplace, you can always deploy a regular Windows-based virtual machine in Google Cloud.

You can then copy the VBR installation files there (even the free Community Edition will suffice), install the product, import backups from Google Cloud Storage, and proceed with performing restores.

Thanks!
