Hi,
Does veeam user a proprietary mechanism to convert VMDK to VHD when restoring VMWare backups to Azure native or it's using one of the PS functions mentioned in here -> https://lazyadmin.nl/it/convert-a-vmwar ... MDK%20file
We are looking to do a massive test restore to Azure, but have full control over when conversion takes place and when VMs are powered up in Azure. The idea is to have a few hundred VMs restored to Azure by Veeam to blob storage and run the convert process daily for a subset of VMs only needed for that day.
Thanks

Re: Restore to Azure
Hi Kazz,
Currently, the process for Restore to Azure works as described here -- the entire process happens as part of the restore job, so controlling specifically when the conversion and actual booting in Azure occur after starting the restore operation is not possible at this time.
Would it suffice to simply select the necessary machines for that day and perform the restore? Similarly, are the backups hosted locally or stored in an Object Storage repository backed by Azure, as if the backups are already stored up in Azure, the Azure Restore Proxy can assist with improving the restore performance and have more speedy restores.
While this won't address your specific requests, it should help with faster and more reliable restore times which may make just starting the restores for the desired machines feasible, or simply restore the machines and uncheck the Power on target VM after restoring option and simply power on the restored machines for your tests at your convenience.

Re: Restore to Azure
hi David,
vbks are stored locally and in wasabi, unfortunately not in azure. i was hoping there was a way to restore vmdk files to azure blob and let me do the conversion myself. Not sure if you would consider it as a feature request to give us an option to restore VM files to azure blob and let us convert at our own pace ?
also could be great if we could back up an Azure VM to blob and restore to VMWare (AVS) running in Azure.
Thanks

Re: Restore to Azure
Hi Kazz,
The request can be considered, sure. Will discuss it internally.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your intent here, but you can currently do backups targeting a Azure blob storage Object Storage Repository and from there initiate the restore to a vCenter which is added, including Azure VMware Solution.
