Can VBR 12 use application aware processing to backup a PostgreSQL database in a container?

Post by razor2refs »

I currently have a Debian Linux VM on VMware, which is running a PostgreSQL database in a docker container. The persistent data of the container database is mapped to a location on the VM. I am backing up the entire VM daily. For MSSQL and Active Directory VMs, I am using application aware processing. Is it possible to do the same for the PostgreSQL container?

Hello,

We didn't test it and this configuration is not supported officially. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it will not work because we will not detect PostgreSQL instance in a container. But the feature request is noted!

Thanks!

Does this function already exist?
We have the same plan.
We are already backing up the entire VM but I would like to back up the individual volumes. Since these volumes are actively used by docker, they also contain files and databases that are currently in use.

The reason is that these folders should be backed up more often in case you want to restore a file or folder.
