We need Db2 plugin on Windows

Post by uk1984 »

We currently use Veeam Db2 Plugin on Linux but we also have several IBM Db2 installations
on Windows Servers which we need to protect/cover regarding backup.

I have seen that there is no Db2 Plugin available for Windows OS.

I am wondering though in the first place why there is no db2 plugin available for windows?
Db2 supports Windows since 1995 with Db2 V6.1 according to my db2 admin.
And is still in active support/development…

Via support I have already placed a feature request. (Case #07444989)
Is there maybe something on the roadmap and you can share details?

Best Regards
Udo

Hello,

Many thanks for bringing our attention to the feature request! Such functionality would undoubtedly bring significant value, but I cannot provide any information regarding an ETA. The decision to initially support only Linux was made based on feedback from our customers, the majority of whom are running Db2 on Linux.

Thanks!

Hello,

in our environment we have like a 50/50 split between installations on Linux and Windows.
So at the moment we have to create a "workaround" with custom scripts for db2 to create backups which we then fetch with Veeam.
A "native" Veeam support/implementation for Windows like it is for Linux would be very welcome and highly anticipated.

How much effort would it mean "porting" the db2 plugin also to windows?

Best Regards
Udo

Hello,

It's not an easy or "quick" feature.

From an implementation perspective, we will need to modify code in many places to make it work on a completely different platform. It's easier than writing a new plug-in from scratch, but it is still a huge task. From a quality analysis perspective, it's just one more plug-in: we'll need to test all scenarios (e.g., connection to Db2 instances) that already exist in Db2 on Linux one more time.

Thanks!
