Managed RMAN plugin slowdown issue
Previously, we were performing RMAN Plugin backup with V11 standalone. The customer was interested in the managed RMAN plugin released in V12 and recently tested it.
Although the backup was performed under the same conditions (storage, number of channels, whether compression was performed), the backup that was previously processed as 100MB was 33MB, which created a difference in backup speed and time.
I wonder if there are any cases like this.

Did you configure same amount of channels?
In general processing logic changed and we worked on performance, which should made it faster.

You can still use RMAN to backup with the Policy Job in place, too. So you can compare then.

Perhaps one backup was a "FULL" vs a "INCREMENTAL"? This Is configured through RMAN settings

Re: Managed RMAN plugin slowdown issue
Hello,
The behavior is not expected, especially considering the fact that we improve performance with every release. Indeed, in your case there is a difference between the backup configuration in standalone mode and the policy. Maybe the traffic is going through another network?
Could you please share a support case ID? It is very difficult to guess the cause of this technical issue.
Thanks!

We configured it by selecting the same number of channels and compression as the standalone type.
I understand that backup is possible through CLI by installing the managed RMAN plugin, but when I simply tested it internally,
rman target /
backup database;
An error occurred during execution. Managed
Does RMAN Plugin require a separate backup channel?
If I need to specify it, I wonder where I can find that information.
I am curious because the channel is not visible when I check with RMAN > show all.

My case number is Case #07459413.
The RMAN Plug-in version we used was version 12.1.
Will all releases also include 12.1? Or, if you mean 12.2, the Veeam B&R upgrade is scheduled.

Re: Managed RMAN plugin slowdown issue
Hello,
If you used the same number of channels in the policy as you did in standalone, then let's wait for our support team. I will ask our support team leaders to pay attention to your case.
I'm not sure if I understand your question about upgrading, but I always recommend using the most recent version. Currently, the most recent version is 12.2.
Thanks!
