Show Deleted Items Question
Hi,
I've got a client going through an audit that needs to restore all items in mailboxes even if they've been deleted. I understand the retention period is the furthest back we'll be able to get data from. However, what I need to know is if the "Show items that have been deleted by user" option will show all deleted items going back to that retention period from the latest restore point. Therefore, could I just use that selection and get every email that Veeam Backup for M365 ever backed up for that user? Or would I need to restore every restore point to be sure I get every backed up email for that user?
Thanks,
Eric

Re: Show Deleted Items Question
Hi Eric
I assume you have used retention type snapshot-based?
The Restore Explorer will then load all emails from the restore point of the selected date, as well as emails that had already been deleted before that selected date.
Best,
Fabian

You can load the most recent restore point and then select the option "Show items that have been deleted by user," as long as the "deleted emails" were backed up at least once and that restore point containing the deleted mail is still within your retention period.what I need to know is if the "Show items that have been deleted by user" option will show all deleted items going back to that retention period from the latest restore point.

Re: Show Deleted Items Question
It's item level retention so it's only pulling data within the timeframe of the retention period. Does that make a difference in how the "Show items that have been deleted by user" pulls data from the last restore point?

Re: Show Deleted Items Question
I just wanted to follow up on if it changes with the item-level repository.

Re: Show Deleted Items Question
Hi Eric,
It's the same for item-level retention. Select the most recent restore point and then choose "Show items that have been deleted by user".
You can easily test this feature (I have verified the behavior in my lab):
1.) Send an email to the mailbox.
2.) Run the backup.
3.) Delete the email.
4.) Run the backup again.
Now start the restore from the latest restore point with both options:
- "Show items that have been deleted by user" --> disabled
- "Show items that have been deleted by user" --> enabled
First test will not show the deleted mails. Second test will show the deleted mail.
Best,
Fabian
