Consult about a Veeam configuration

Post by darkmastermu »

Greetings
I wanted to check if the following scenario is feasible on a current Veeam implementation. If not, what would be the drawbacks ?:
Base equipment:
Apollo 4510 G10 with 2 processors, 128 RAM, 4GbE backup network (it is not possible to use 10GbE, because it does not have that network), P408i-p smart array, 4FC 16Gb ports (although due to technical restrictions of Veeam vs. client environment, SAN backup is ruled out) and 12 14TB LFF 7.2K disks for the backup repository in a single Raid 6 array
Veeam 12.1
Proposal:
Since an immutable repository is required (protection against Ransomware), a VM could be mounted within this equipment (via HyperV), give it a new repository with another group of 12 LFF 7.2K disks that is immutable, copy the current backups from the Windows repository to the Linux one, remove the Windows repository and set the Linux repository as the main one for the current backups (virtual, Windows and Solaris agents and file system) ?
Case 07479460
Thanks a lot

A lot of details are missing to be able to provide a great answer; however, the HPE Apollo is a great server. What exactly are you looking to do with it? My suggestion would be to set it up as a Linux-based Hardened Repository directly on the hardware (and use RAID 60 instead of RAID 6).
