[Feature Request] Setting the PostgreSQL database path when installing VBM365
Hello everyone,
Unfortunately, in the current version of VBM365, the path to the PostgreSQL database cannot be specified during installation, so that the database is always stored under C by default.
As there is no longer a cache directory in version 8, we are concerned that the C drive will become far too large.
We would like to move the database to another drive, which can be expanded during operation if necessary.
Or has anyone found an easy way to simply adapt the database paths?
BR

hi, as far as i understood it correctly, you can always install PostgreSQL manually (wherever you want... even on the same machine but on different folder/patch or drive) and then point the installation to your custom psql-installation...
add the option to change the path in the "automatic-installation" would make the installer more complicated and my guess is to keep that install-everything-automatically out-of-the-box approach as easily as possible...
btw you also can't change the path of the PSQL Installation in VBR installation ...

Hello Lukas
As Stefan has commented, for now, you should set up a PostgreSQL instance on another local disk or on a remote machine, and then select it during the upgrade or installation process, just like in VBR.
We are currently also working on a knowledge base (KB) article titled "How to Migrate PostgreSQL Database to Another Instance or Machine." However, it may take some time to verify the migration process and publish the KB article. I will let you know when the article is finished.
Best,
Fabian

Hello Fabian,
thanks a lot for your reply. We can start in our environment with the database on C and wait for the KB to migrate the DB later.
If the database is only a few GB in size, it is absolutely no problem. However, as 1-3% cache memory is planned for the protected M365 data volume, the memory consumption can quickly increase.
I am looking forward to the new KB article
