Sorry for the question that might be trivial: Does version B&R 12 - Community Edition still support backup to LTO cassettes like version 11 or are there restrictions?

Community edition v12 does not limit support for LTO tapes. You can still write File to Tape jobs to any LTO tapes in v12.0.

Please note the license change in V12 for File to Tape jobs. In V11, such jobs didn‘t consumed a license instance. Starting in V12, File to Tape jobs will consume a license instance for every 500GB source data (except Veeam backup files). With community edition, you have 10 free licenses which are consumed from all supported workloads (agent, vms, file to tape, …).
