Given the end of support for RHV in 2026, what is Veeam policy and plans regarding Redhat Openshift backup?
Is it viewed as "just another kubernetes" even if you are running VMs in OpenShift virtualization?
Running VMs in VM is kind of a mesh of kubernetes and "old style, type 2 virtualization".
So what is the recommened way to backup up VMs in Openshift, if supported at all?
What about Application Aware backups in such an enviroment, but without agents?

Hi @dejan.ilic. As Chris notes above, we do have some support specifically for Redhat OpenShift Virtualization in our Veeam Kasten product.
Unfortunately, there are many challenges there for protecting traditional VM workloads, missing core features such as CBT, etc. and super difficult to implement due to the varied nature of the hardware and environmental configuration. We have been working within the Kubernetes development community to get features required for proper backup into the K8S platform, following a path similar to how we collaborated with Redhat to bring CBT it RHV. You can read a bit about this work in this CNCF Blog and you can track the progress of CSI support for CBT on the Kubernetes Github Project page.
While this work is promising, it is still in the early stages and will take time to become a GA feature, as well as for vendors to update their CSI drivers to support it, and for customers to update to K8S versions that include CBT support. In the interim, we continue to develop Kasten to be able to protect VMs running on Openshift (and potentially other Kubevirt based solutions) and initial support for this is available today. You can watch Protecting Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization VMs with Veeam Kasten to get an idea of what is possible today.
