Hi
I need some advice or recommendation.
I have my hypervisors and veeam backup servers on a restricted isolated network. Virtual servers and computers are on a different vlan and have no access to the isolated "management network".
I need to get a NAS to store a lagre amount of files for my users. My plan is to configure it to setup it's management interface to our isolated vlan and make a SMB share on the server/computer vlan.
My question is if I can backup the NAS/SMB Share from the management network or do I need to transfer all data between my vlans?
How do you solve it? I think most setups nowdays use a isoleted management network for their backup/replication and hypervisors.
Thanks for any input!

Re: Backup Synology Share from restricted management network?
Hello JohanSve,
As long as Veeam B&R and file proxy can access the share over the network you can back it up, so management network can be used for the backup - just need to make sure resolution works correctly. Thanks!

Re: Backup Synology Share from restricted management network?
Hello thanks for the reply,
I would like to avoid sending the backup traffic from vlan to vlan beacuse it will load our firewalls.
Is there no agent we can install on the NAS box, for example like on a hypervisor/hyper-v server? Or any feature in NAS that allow backup on SMB shares from it's management network instead of going to the share itself?
The Synology NAS is just an option I thought, maybe there are other disk solutions that are better?

NAS backup is agentless. The read / write is performed from a proxy server assigned for the NAS processing, so proxy must see / access the actual share.
