Server 2025 - Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint

Post by pesos »

Am now running 12.3 with some 2025 hosts. Despite Veeam explicitly saying vm version 12 is supported (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120) I'm getting this:

Failed to create VM recovery checkpoint (mode: Crash consistent)

So is this a fundamental issue on Microsoft's side?

So other 2025 hosts can create version 12.0 checkpoints without issue. Realized this is my first 2025 cluster, and after upgrading and rejoining each node to 2025 you need to run Update-ClusterFunctionalLevel - all good now!

Hello John,

I've moved your two comments from the server 2005 topic.

The inability to create checkpoints is not related to the backup product itself. Checkpoints are managed by the Hypervisor, and the backup product simply tells the hypervisor to create a checkpoint. In these cases, I suggest attempting to create a manual checkpoint directly in the Hyper-V Management Console; if there's an issue, it should fail there as well.

I'm glad to hear that you were able to resolve it.

Best,
