Hi there,
From what I can tell there is no easy way to increase the retention on an immutable object storage repository.
Is the best way to extend the retention simply to create an new repository in V365, target the same bucket but use a different folder to start fresh with the higher retention?
I'm guessing I can't target the original folder again to continue with the existing backups?
Thanks!

Re: Increase retention on immutable object storage rep
Hi,
You can increase the retention period on an immutable repository if this repository only stores backup data (and no backup copies).
The downside of creating a new repository (a fresh folder) is that you will have to start with a new full backup (which typically takes time).
If you remove and re-add your original repository, you can continue backups but the initial repository settings will remain (VB365 will read them from repository metadata).
Thanks!

Re: Increase retention on immutable object storage rep
Hi Polina,
Yes this one stores backup copies. I'll just add a new folder and keep the old one until it is no longer immutable, luckily this one isn't too big.
It would be nice to have a feature of increasing or perhaps even decreasing the retention in V365 for the copy jobs. i.e decreasing retention could take effect after the original retention is passed, and perhaps increasing retention could take effect on new items, and new retention could be added to the older items when they are no longer immutable. Not sure how hard that would be to implement but it would save some headaches.
Thanks for your help!

Re: Increase retention on immutable object storage rep
To be honest, it's unlikely to happen in the foreseeable future. And even if we consider changing the current retention mechanism for copies, I bet it'd be only a retention increase and not a period reduction to avoid potential risks.
Thanks!
Thanks!
