SQL Database Failing to Restore - Case #07392697

Post by EskBackupGuy23 »

Hello,

All of a sudden having a strange problem when I try to restore an SQL database from a backup using "Restore Application Items\Microsoft SQL Server"

I am able to load the restore points. Once I select the database I want to restore, it goes thru the motions and then errors out with the following error:

Mounting Status
Application level restore started....
Cleaning Up
SAM ExplorerManagementService: Failed to get VM mount result (sessionId = '3ebf73c8-4739-498c-af18-b4fcedd422bd') | SQL metadata for database INST01\SAM not found in restore point 262281d6-1934-42c5-bf7f-20c2cf2145dc

Yes I have tried other databases from that server and I have tried changing the mount server. At a loss here. I have a Veeam support call in, but I'm getting a bit nervous :)

Thank you in advance for your assistance!!

Hello,

It does not look like a known issue. The error message indicates that metadata cannot be found in the restore point you are attempting to use. There are two potential reasons for this:
1. Metadata was not properly collected during a backup
2. There is an attempt to refer to the "wrong" restore point (maybe a configuration database glitch)

Unfortunately, we are unable to analyze any of these reasons through forum posts as we lack access to debug logs and cannot conduct a remote session. I recommend working with your support engineer to identify the root cause of the problem.

Thanks!

I have uploaded logs to my Veeam case. It has switched several hands. I think Veeam may be at a loss as well. This is pretty stressful. No matter what restore I select and no matter how I try to restore the data. If I try to export the files to an alternate location, I get the same error. If I try to export to a .bak, same thing. I would be in some real trouble if I had a down situation in which I had to restore databases from this cluster.
Message: SAM ExplorerManagementService: Failed to get VM mount result (sessionId = '7f534719-263b-4c08-8ac3-511d262dcdb8') | SQL metadata for database INST01\SAM not found in restore point c7defc90-ff0d-4f4b-91f1-40e1d07734aa

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Thanks!

We tried creating a brand new job. Ran a full backup of the database. All successful until I got to the restore part. Then the same problem.
