Protecting PostgreSQL database new v8 setup

Post by bcravn »

Hi!
We are in the process of upgrading our current v7 setup to v8.
As a part of this, a dedicated PostgreSQL server will be created for each VBO controller.
Our first upgrade has ended in a 150GB database (and growing).
The PostgreSQL is running on a Windows VM, so currently its just being protected by snapshots.

On VBR there is a built in configuration backup, but how about on VBO ?
What is Veeams recommendations, and how would you recommend to protect it ?

Hi Bjarke,

Honestly, there are no official recommendations at this point - we are planning to perform a few tests, though it may take a few weeks to complete them.
In the future, configuration backup should also be available in VB365 but the timeframe for it is currently not defined.

Hi Polina,

Thanks for the reply.

As I understand it, you will not technically loose any m365 data stored in object storage buckets, in case you loose the postgreSQL database ?
But we would be without all organizations and all backup jobs, that would need to be added again ? Is that correct ?
And then after that, re-index all buckets again.

Hi Bjarke,

Backups in repositories will remain, but the entire configuration will be lost indeed.
This KB https://www.veeam.com/kb4676 describes how to migrate cache databases between two PostgreSQL instances, but should you need to rebuild your instance and connect it to the existing VB365 server, the process would be similar.
