Dynamic groupings of SharePoint Site for Jobs

Post by Erwin Linker »

Hi,

What is the best way to split sharepoint jobs in a dynamic way? So if new sites are created they are also pick up by the back-up job.
At the moment we have a customer that has around 51000 objects in there sharepoint environment. At this moment I takes around 2 days to make a back-up.

Regards,
Erwin

Hi Erwin,

V8: We currently recommend a maximum of 40,000 objects per job.

If you want to automate the addition of SharePoint sites inside Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, you could try the following job configuration:
- Job 1: Assign 35,000-40,000 SharePoint sites directly to the job.
- Job 2: Add "organization" to the job and exclude the 35,000-40,000 SharePoint sites from Job 1.
When a new SharePoint site is created, it should automatically be added to Job 2.

All other options have to be custom scripted for RestAPI/PowerShell. We have a sample script on VeeamHub.

Hi Fabian,

Is the sample script doing the same logic? Create the first job and in the second job everything from the first job is excluded?

Hi Erwin

From reviewing the script, it won't work the same. The script will create multiple jobs and add the SharePoint objects directly to each job.
It may also be possible that the script doesn't work today with V8.1 (I haven't tested it myself).
