Veeam SOBR Retention Policy

Post by faceman89 »

Hi Team,

We have configured a SOBR using Azure Blob (Performance) & Azure Archive Tier (Archive) - No capacity tier.

The current backup jobs are stored in standard backup repository, we do an active full backup every week. The plan is to create a new backup copy jobs pointing to the newly created SOBR and enable GFS for long-term retention. GFS will be set for 12 Monthly and 7 Years - No weekly.

The question i have is with retention policies on the copy jobs. What should be the recommend retention policy we should set for the backup copy jobs? Currently its set to 2 days, and my understanding is after N+1 day the oldest increment will be removed from the blob store. We ideally want to offload the backups from the blob to the archive tier.

Thanks in advance. Cheers!

Hi Fernando, welcome to the forums.

For Archive Tier, you will want to configure GFS like you're planning, and the archiving process will be as outlined in our User Guide. The Archiving job will act on the GFS points, not the short-term retention chain, so you just need to focus on the GFS points being archived, the short-term retention chain is only there to build GFS points to be archived in this scenario.
