Hello, i would like to know or confirm if its possible to use nfs version type 4 when using vm instant recovery.
as far we know vpowernfs uses nfs v3 (type 3).
we have a project in large customer that he could use a big quantity of intant recovery. probably he will not use this but he whant to know if its possible to run a large quantity.
Since in the project the production flash storages are brand X and the backups flash storages are brand Y, and all the network infrastructure are with 25gb networks with LACP. infrastructure shold not be the limit, operations systems involved will not be the limit, veeam will not be the limit as itself but we started questioning ourselves about the NFS v3 performance inside the vpowernfs connection with the hosts (vsphere 8.0.3).
i didnt find any documentation about forcing nfs v4 when the nas mounting action between veeam and vmware and i didnt find anything saying nothing about this, just 2 forum articles without anything answered or with any ideia.
this project is about protecting 15000 vms and of course is not to up instant recovery all but some number (50/100/300/500/1000).
my question is only about nfs version of the vpower nfs connection.
any ideia will be appreciated.
thanks in advance.

Re: VBR vpowernfs NFS type
Hi Flavio,
I think we can save you some research, as I'm not confident the bottleneck for you is going to be NFS v3 vs v4, but it's more about the workload that Instant Recovery requires.
From our version 12.3 What's New Document: https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_12_3 ... new_wn.pdf

We will of course continue with improvements on Instant Recovery/vPowerNFS, but right now 200 simultaneous sessions per backup server is the target you can rely on, and the resource usage was heavily improved as well.Recovery from image-level backups
Instant VM recovery
Instant recovery engine scalability — Multiple optimizations have been made to the instant recovery
engine improving its scalability while dramatically reducing backup server load. Thanks to these
improvements, V12.3 completes mass instant recovery of 200 VMs more than four times faster than
the previous version (in 10 minutes vs. 45 minutes) while consuming up to three-times less CPU and
seven-times less RAM on the backup server.

Re: VBR vpowernfs NFS type
Hi David!
Thanks for you answer, i already looked this about what´s new in 12.3. it helps a lot about comparing it.
my trust in veeam to accomplish 1500 instant vm recovery is 110%, my only concern is abount nfs v3 performance protocol because the nfs v3 is around 30% trhoughput performance comparing with v4.
and yes i will try 1500 ivmr and will post here it.
until then, any news or information is appreciated.

Re: VBR vpowernfs NFS type
@Alexey.Strygin has been experimenting recently with mass instant recoveries and he was able to do 1000 VMs in 14 mins with 5 virtual vPower NFS servers.
