credentials prompt

Post by Kazz »

Hi,

I have an old VBK (missing VBM) file that I need to restore. When I try to import the VBK in to Veeam it's prompting me for credentials that I don't seem to have. VBK was not encrypted, what credentials am I prompted for?

Thanks

Hi Kazz,

Can you perhaps show a screenshot of the prompt you're getting? It does sound like encryption, but would be best to just see the prompt in full. Similarly, are you able to open the VBK with the Veeam Extract Utility? This will help us understand if it's an encryption item or not.

Thanks Kazz, I think I see the cause of the prompt.

Looks like the backups are on a network share that's either mapped/mounted on the Veeam server, is that correct? There's some complexity with passing network share connections between user contexts and what I'm guessing is happening is Veeam is trying to create a temporary credential for future actions with the file on the share.

Try copying the file locally or adding credentials for the share to Veeam (be sure to use {hostname or ip}\username format, don't use .\username) and select those credentials when trying to import.

no, backup is corrupt, veeam asks for credentials even if i move the file to a local drive on veeam server

maybe a check box on the import dialog that triggers a checks if VBK file is valid before trying to import

when importing a corrupt file we are in the infinite loop prompting for credentials

Hi Kazz,

Thanks for trying it, but that doesn't sound quite right. Could you please upload logs to the case for Support to review? Use the 3rd radio option and select the Veeam server to export logs from.

Just I corrupted a VBK intentionally just now and I could not reproduce the prompts, so not sure it's that.
