v8.1 upgrade for performance and scalability improvements

Congratulations on v8.1 release.

The release KB article https://www.veeam.com/kb4711 has this note -- Multiple stability, performance, and scalability improvements delivered to ensure product reliability

The release notes specifiy the change in Entra app permissions

For most of our clients, we do not have global admin access and are dependent on them to assist us if there are changes required in Entra app.
To perform this upgrade, we have to plan this out with our clients availability and in most cases, involves a change request (the whole process of approval and change window, etc, etc).

I would appreciate if more details can be provided on the note of multiple stability, performance and scalability improvements that you have mentioned in KB.
As in our env, we are seeing performance issues with v8.0, but do not see any other backup or general issues that are listed in KB. Since these are new deployments with v8.0, I do not have stats to compare of the job with v7.

Once you provide more details (maybe some numbers that show performance improvements by 2x or 5x), it will help to put this details forward to our clients and which in turn may help in getting the change approvals done easily.
A reason is required to show why the upgrade (along with change in permissions) is required. Simply saying a new version is available with performance improvements, is not easy in approval process.

Hi Sumeet,

I'm collecting the list of improvements to share with you, but getting those in numbers is a bit of a challenge (some things are not that straightforward to test and get). Most things are tweaks in processing logic, optimizations to resource consumption in proxy pools, etc.

Btw, changes in app permissions are not new already - they were introduced when v8 was released.

Thanks for the update.

Regarding the app permissions -- maybe I missed reading this sentence in the release notes -- Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8.1 inherits the following changes in required permissions and roles introduced in v8 (build 8.0.2.159).

I looked at the permissions changes https://helpcenter.veeam.com/rn/veeam_b ... ermissions
and assumed that these changes are for upgrade from v8.0 to v8.1

Ok, so just to confirm there is no Entra App permission changes betwen v8.0 and v8.1. Is this correct?

Correct, there are no changes in Entra app permissions between v8.0 and v8.1; only some additions compared to v7x.
